Meditation and Happiness Series

Thursday night classes are for those who want more happiness, stillness and meaning in their lives--and wonder if meditation might help them in their search.

The class follows a four-week cycle, starting at the beginning of each month. You can enter the class at any point in the cycle.

Week 1 -- The purpose of the class is to begin answering the question, "Why meditate?" We start by exploring whether or not you are happy, look at various systems for obtaining happiness--from materialism to Buddhism--and conclude by discussing how meditation fits into each system.

Week 2 -- The second class begins to answer, "What is meditation anyway?" We see that meditation is not just a method of calming and de-stressing us (although that occurs), but opens a doorway to a different reality.

Week 3 -- This week's class focuses on "How do I start meditating?" We get practical with the how, when, and where of setting up a meditation practice.

Week 4 -- The final class of the series highlights techniques for staying aware 24/7--not just during meditation sessions. Mindfulness is an ancient technique; we discuss its modern versions.

Every class, even week 1, contains two to three short meditation sessions. Techniques you will learn are:
· Visualization
· Concentrating on an object, such as a flower or candle flame
· Meditating to music
· Chakra (energy center) meditation

After participants attend the four-week cycle for two times and have started a meditation practice, they can elect to attend the intermediate class or continue with the four-week cycle. The intermediate class will be at the instructor's discretion, and will cover topics such as Psychic Intuition, Making Decisions, Career and Meditation, Advanced Mindfulness, Reincarnation, and Enlightened Teachers.
